Bhandara at Halani Darbar

Sai always talks with a lot of delight to all the devotees while they are eating bhandara in Darbar Sahib and also teaches us many things in a subtle way. He calls out all devotees by their names, asking them to come and eat.
He feels very happy while all are eating and asks them excitedly as to whether the food is tasty? All devotees have one answer, they all tell Him, “Sai, there is some magic here which makes the food so tasty. However hard we may try, it is never as tasty in our homes!”
Sai smilingly replies, “I am no magician. Here the devotees who cook, those who distribute and who eat, all do it with so much affection and dedication, that the food turns out so tasty! Here in our Darbar, 18 hours out of 24 in a day, there is Kirtan going on, then how will there not be the divine nectar in it!”

Sai and his devotees

It is a well known fact that only devotees of Darbar Sahib Halani are allowed to stay in Darbar. Once a couple from Ulhasnagar who were not devotees, visited Darbar Sahib, Ajmer, with the intention of staying. Sai asked them to stay at the Dharamshala or the Hotel located nereby. They looked around and asked Sai that there seem to be other people staying here. Sai told them that here only Darbar Sahib’s devotees are allowed to stay. They further asked the meaning of devotees. Sai answered them by asking, “What is the meaning of son? Same is the meaning of a devotee!”
This shows how Sai takes care of all of us as His children and looks after us as a father!
Whenever the topic of devotees comes up, He always says that we are a big family. When someone once asked as to what He planned to build on the newly acquired plot, He replied, our family has now expanded, it has become big, we need a bigger place for meeting and for bhandara!
Due to such affection and closeness from Sai, all devotees too stay in harmony and oneness!

Guru and Shishya

A known person from Jaipur once came to Darbar Sahib at Ajmer. He kept a basket of fruits at Sai’s feet and said, “Please make me your disciple.” Obviously Sai refused to do so, as Sai has always been very clear about the true concept of the relation between a Guru and a disciple. Sai never believes in increasing the numbers of devotees or disciples, He says that He would rather take good care of the existing ones.
Accordingly Sai told him, “I have been staying here since years, many people know me, many I am friendly with, but that friendship, that relation is restricted till the bank, or the shop, etc.”
Sai is too perfect and clear about the limits and privileges in every relationship!

Can you choose your own Guru ?

Once a couple from Ulhasnagar, who were followers of Bhilwara Darbar, visited Darbar Sahib Halani, Ajmer. They told Sai that we were desirous of your darshan and the wife said that some days back she dreamt that she had made Sai her Guru. This is why they had come from so far and requested Sai to fulfill their wish.
Sai said, “You already have a Guru and Guru cannot be changed. Today, because of a dream you are leaving your Guru and making me your Guru, tomorrow you may find one more and leave me. This is wrong!”
Many people come to Darbar and tell Sai that we have come to make you our Guru. Sai smiles and asks them as to how this is possible? Can a son tell the same to his father! Just like a father gives birth to his son, same way a Guru finds and makes His disciples! Many Gurus try and expand their activities in order to attract more devotees and disciples. But our Sai feels that the number of devotees we have, are enough. He says that I want only those many devotees of whom I can take good care.
While highlighting the glory of a true Guru, Sai also cautions us that a Guru is always there like a surname, we do not have a choice to change or make anyone our Guru!
